Top 5 FAQ's
The legal minimum tread depth for the UK is 1.6mm. This needs to be over ¾ of the tyre.
Whilst we cannot vouch for other tyre suppliers we can vouch from where ours come from. Our part worn tyres come from Europe where the tyre laws are different from the UK. In many of the countries in Europe you need to change your tyres with the changing of the seasons i.e. summer to winter then winter back to summer. In many cases motorists change their tyres and buy new ones and discard of the old ones. The old tyres may have only been on the car for a season meaning they still have plenty of life on them. We make the most of this and buy the old tyres which are perfectly good and pass the saving to our customers. This is not only a good way to save money but also for the environment by recycling unwanted tyres so using part worn tyres can be extremely economical.
Yes, providing they have been pressure tested and inspected, and also meet the UK law tyre requirements. Upon purchasing tyres you can always ask to see the tyre(s) before they are fitted. If anybody refused we would recommend that you find another tyre dealer who will.
Using a torque wrench is a lot less invasive than using compressed air when putting wheel nuts back on thus reducing the likelihood of damage being done to alloys and rims. The wheel nuts can be put back on at the correct manufacturer’s settings preventing over tightening. This can be vital if you gain a puncture at the roadside as you need to be able to get the wheel nuts back off using a standard wrench. Using compressed air requires the user to know when to stop tightening a wheel nut, if concentration is lost this can cause not only cause over tightening but the wheel nuts being rounded off by the socket used. If wheel nuts are rounded off they often need to be specially removed as a wrench socket will not be able to grip the wheel nut (plus they are probably too tight anyway). Another common problem is cross threading, this occurs when the wheel nut is not aligned properly, when compressed air is used it forces the wheel nut on and causes damage which is expensive to repair, using a torque wrench will allow you to pick up on a mis-alignment before any damage is done.
This is all down to personal preference. Whilst it is not a law requirement to change tyres with the seasons in the UK like many other European countries we feel it should be best practice. Winter tyres are there for a purpose and that is they perform better in colder and wetter conditions, thus making them and you safer on the road in harsher conditions.
